From time to time, the Vienna Philharmonic could play without a conductor because they are so good. Bernard Arnault
Yes, they are too good, agree 🙂
Vienna is music, but not only! Vienna is Waltz, opera, but also an Imperial city with a stunning architecture, many cultural events, coffee houses, cozy wine taverns, and the very special Viennese charm. In few words Vienna is for aristocrats:) and this is definitely my impression every time i back to the Austrian capital.
I little escape i’ve made last week and took the plane for Vienna. Just with the idea to meet some friends, eat the perfect schnitzel, drinking wine, visit the opera and walk in the Schonbrunn palace.
Even you feel and see the city as a quiet one,
Probably you know it already, but let me remeber:
Schönbrunn Palace is a former imperial summer residence located in Vienna, Austria. It is one of the most important architectural, cultural, and historical monuments in the country. Schönbrunn Palace is one of Europe’s most impressive Baroque palace complexes. Schönbrunn Palace was designed by the architects Johann Bernhard Fischer von Erlach and Nicolaus Pacassi.
This baroque complex has 1,441 room. Imagine? I would get tired to remeber where i put my dress if i had to live in such a palace, bit it’s impressing, really.
An inventory of the palace gardens in 1900 counted 25,000 orchids of 1,500 different species which held the record as the largest collection in Europe at that time.
UNESCO catalogued Schönbrunn Palace on the World Heritage List in 1996, together with its gardens, as a remarkable Baroque ensemble and example of synthesis of the arts. Schönbrunn Palace is Austria’s most frequently visited tourist attraction with 2,600,000 visitors per year. The name Schönbrunn (meaning “beautiful spring”), has its roots in an artesian well from which water was consumed by the court. Enough for the palace. Let’s back to the city.
People often called Vienna “The City of Music”, or the World’s Capital of Music, as more famous composers have lived here than in any other city in the world. And 4 of the top 10 classical composers in history worked in Vienna between 1750 and 1825. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Ludwig van Beethoven, Joseph Haydn, Franz Schubert, Johann Straus and Johannes Brahms are just a few who called Vienna home.
The Vienna State Opera is one of the most famous operas in the whole world.
St. Stephen’s Cathedral, the most well-known church in Vienna, Austria, is a true Gothic style Roman Catholic Church. St. Stephen’s is the mother church of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Vienna. You can read all this information everywhere, but i read about an interesting secret and i share with you now – I
When facing the cathedral, on the left side there is a metal handle on the wall. This is the “freedom handle.”
The police cannot arrest anyone in the Church because it’s a sanctuary, so criminals would come to St. Stephen’s for protection. Because of all the criminals, the priest decided to close the cathedral. The handle was built after it was closed. If a criminal holds the handle, they are still considered a part of the church – the very handle in the picture below.
Wine bars take a big part of the local culture in Vienna. Vienna is the only capital city in the world to produce significant quantities of wine within its city limits. The most popular are white wine varieties such as Grüner Veltliner, Rheinriesling and Weißburgunder.
People of Vienna are very famous for their love for dogs. They take them almost everywhere. Dogs are welcome at public places and public transportation and in many boutiques and restaurants.
Do you fall in love with Vienna already? So, welcome:)in the club! And enjoy!
Vienna stolе my heart forever…
